IDPS High-Level Luncheon: Shaping the Future of Partnerships for Peace, Development, and Security

On 25 September 2025, the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) convened a High-Level Luncheon during the 80th United Nations General Assembly to reflect on recalibrating partnerships for peace, development, and security in a rapidly changing global context. The event marked the launch of the new IDPS Policy Statement and reaffirmed the platform’s unique role as a trusted political dialogue space—bringing together governments, civil society, and development partners to champion nationally-led solutions and foster inclusive partnerships.

Opening remarks from IDPS Co-Chair H.E. Kenyeh Barlay, Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone, g7+ Chair, and interim IDPS Co-Chair Ambassador Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, underscored the need for inclusive, adaptive, and forward-looking collaboration, particularly in bridging the gap between humanitarian response and long-term development. Other speakers included H.E. Jane Mugafalu Kabui Waetara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative, Solomon Islands; Shoko Noda, UN Assistant Secretary General and Director, Crisis Bureau, UNDP; Elizabeth Hume, Executive Director, Alliance for Peacebuilding; and Awa Dabo, Deputy Head of Office, UN Peacebuilding Support Office, UNDPPA.

Participants agreed on key priorities:

  • Building inclusive partnerships that bridge humanitarian, development, peace, and security efforts.
  • Leading a political reset centered on prevention, national ownership, and principled pragmatism.
  • Amplifying IDPS’s visibility and communicating impact globally.
  • Embracing innovation in financing, technology, and security sector reform.
  • Driving concrete next steps through proactive engagement in upcoming global forums.

The luncheon closed with a shared commitment to ensure IDPS enters its next phase with renewed energy, solidarity, and purpose, continuing its role as a trusted convenor for peace and resilience worldwide.
