Ensuring that Financing for Development works for Fragile and Conflict-Affected States

The g7+ held a successful side event at the Third International Financing for Development Conference in July in Addis Ababa, titled ‘Ensuring that Financing for Development works for Fragile and Conflict-Affected States’, sponsored by Sierra Leone, Timor-Leste and United States, and supported by the International Dialogue. The event garnered high level participation from all sides of the International Dialogue (INCAF, the g7+ and Civil Society) and from the Private sector. Through this and other side events, and in the plenary sessions, members of the IDPS were able to reiterate two important messages: i) fragile and conflict affected states need to be an integral part of the conversation about using ODA to leverage other sources of financing for development; ii) ODA needs to be scaled up to fragile/conflict affected LDCs – in particular the aid orphans among them – and deployed in smart ways and in line with New Deal PSGs.
